I think about propranolol and atenolol maybe

Hi everyone,

I started taking propranolol about 10 years ago for essential tremor, hypertension, and anxiety. I think the dose was around 10mg as needed, but it didn't seem to help much at all! So I stuck with it because that's what my doctor prescribed.

At one point, my resting heart rate was around 120 bpm. Later on, after doing some research online-I guess you could call it "Google doctoring"-I switched to 20mg of atenolol once a day. This really helped bring down my resting heart rate to about 70 bpm, but then I noticed that my tremors and anxiety came back.

After checking reliable websites like NHS and Mayo Cliinc, I stopped taking the atenolol and went back to propranolol. I'm now on 40mg of propranolol twice a day. It's helping with my tremors and anxiety, but it's not doing much for my heart rate-I noticed it's around 100 bpm again.

I'm wondering if it would be okay to take both medications-20mg of atenolol once a day along with the 40mg propranolol I'm already on. The NHS mentions that taking up to 40 mg of propranolol four times daily should be fine since its effects only last about 4 to 6 hours. So, I've been trying different combinations and noticed my resting heart rate drops around 30 minutes after taking the propranolol but quickly goes back up.

Right now, my heart rate is fluctuating quite a bit-I think it's down to about 70 bpm for a short while before creeping back up. My resting heart rate being this high makes me feel weak and tired. But when I exercise lightly, my heart rate jumps to around 120 bpm, which isn't good at all.

I'm not sure what else to do since I can't afford regular doctor visits anymore. Is it safe to take both propranolol and atennolol together?

Any advice you have would be really appreciated!

Found it. Can't mix propranolol and atenolol.
