so i've had adhd my whole life and tried getting diagnosed since like 13. parents were busy so i just kinda slipped through the cracks, got told "too smart" or "not trying". turns out this is common tho . now i know i really need help but it's gotta be me doing it. no clue how to start cuz never went to doctors much as a kid bc of like neglect and my dad not trusting the system. do i see a therapist 1st for all that stuff? or a psychiatrist for adhd? what comes with getting diagnosed?? confused af but ready to try

So I guess when someone thinks you should tallk to a therapist, that's the first step? They listen to all your worries and stuff, then if it seems serious enough, they'll point you towards a shrink. The shrink will be the one to really dive into what's going on in your head and figure out exacttly what's up with your symptoms. Then they keep an eye on everything to see if things are improving or not. It's kind of like checking in on how well your body or mind is doing, you know? Just keeping tabs on it all.

Thank you for the information. It's easy to get ahead of myself at times.

Do you have any advice on how to find a therapist? Is there a specific website or resource that you recommend?

I think this website has therapists, and maybe you could also look up a local one on Google?
