Is lithium helpful or harmful?

I've tried most antidepressants, but none have worked for me. I also tried two different antipsychotics, and after taking just one tablet of the second one, it left me feeling suicidal. Now my doctor is suggesting Lithium. Reading about it in the leaflet is pretty scary because there are a lot of potential side effects. Maybe someone here has experience with this drug or knows someone who has tried it?

First they send a leaflet. You gotta read it before signing up. Side effects are scary as hell. They don't care what happens to you.

I need to check the medication details because I am unsure of its effects. If it is the same substance used in high-power batteries, that wouldn't be surprising since I recently bought a Solar Generator with batteries and solar panels that store electricity. I'll take another look at this tomorrow.

Yeah, lithium's been around forver and is pretty safe. I popped some myself back in the day and it really helped me out.

I can't recall exactly how long it takes, but I think it's quicker than SSRIs. For me, it kind of sucked the color out of my life-made everything feel a bit grey and muted-but that was actually helpful at first because it helped me focus on other stuff and do what I needed to get better.

I have been taking this medication for around a year and a half, along with an antidepressant. It has been helpful, as I feel less anxious and am better able to go out and engage in activities. My mind also seems clearer.

It might be worth considering.

Hey there-just saw this thread and wanted to chime in since I tried Lithium back when. Honestly, I didn't feel like it made much of a difference for me at all. The side effects were kind of minimal-I did get a litttle nauseous sometimes but nothing too bad. Just remember you need regular blood tests to monitor your liver and kidneys because the drug can have an impact on those organs if things aren't balanced right.

I started taking it when I was dealing with Manic Depression, wich is now called Bipolar disorder. Anyway, I took it for a few years until my doc said we should discontinue it. If you're being prescribed Lithium as a Mood Stabilizer, talk to your psychiatrist or even your GP about how it might work for you. It's really important to weigh the pros and cons-it could be helpful but also might not do much at all. Just hoping whatever decision you make works out for you!

Lithium isn't just any ol' drug-it's an elemental supplement usually found as lithium carbonate but more beneficial when it comes in the form of lithium orotate. The word on the street-or rather, what I've heard from some folks-is that it's pretty neuro-protective and can help with neuro-plasticity. It seems to be a go-to for managing manic depressive conditions. Plus, there's talk about how it boosts brain cell communication, which sonuds like a win-win if you ask me!
