I've been wondering if taking Olanzapine every day can lead to stuff like forgettign things a lot and maybe even some form of dementia in the long run. Anyone know about this?

I think dementia might be linked to plaques in the brain more so than medications. A lot of medicines can cause memory problems as a side effect, though. Maybe if it's worrying you, talking to a doctor would be the best step?

I've been on Zyprexa for like over 25 years now and honestly? It's kind of my lifeline because nothing else has helped me as much as this does. I mean, I really wouldn't know what to do if I had to switch off it or anything. Anyway, yeah, I have these memory issues but when I bring it up with my doc, she's like "it's mostly age-related" and not so much due to the meds. One time another doctor suggested trying Namenda along with the Zprexa-she said it wuold "protect" my memory, but I had to stop taking the Namenda a while ago because of some other side effects that came up. So anyway, like blackcat64013 mentioned, talking about all this stuff with your doctor is super important, yeah?

I am concerned because I do not like the idea of trying medications. There is no accountability for patients who experience negative side effects after agreeing to try a new medication that may not address any underlying isssues. I appreciate your perspective and thank you for sharing it.
