Structured rules driving me crazy - has anyone else?
Hey there,
Did anyone ever do compulsions in like an organized and super methodical way? I mean, have you guys ever declared and set up a whole bunch of different rules for yourself before diving into your compulsion, but like really systematicaly?
I know plenty of people with OCD who declare their rules before they start, but usually it's just quick and simple-think the rule in your head and move on to do the compulsion. Not this structured approach I'm talking about.
For instance: Have you ever set up a system and rules inside yourself like this? (It doesn't have to be exactly how I did it): "Today, here in this room, I'm going to do a systematic and rule-based compulsion where all the rules will be declared and set in place." Then proceed by declaring each new rule: "A new rule is being established: [rule content]," followed by another rule: "Another new rule is being established: [content of the next rule]." And repeat that process for more rules.
When I did mine, some examples were things like "No matter how sloppy I do the compulsion, it still counts" or "Once done with the compulsion, this system will be completely wiped out and have no further effect." (I had to declare this so the system couldn't go off on its own and cause mroe stress.)
So, has anyone else ever set up a structured system of rules inside themselves like what I described?
Would love to hear if you've been there.
