Supporting my wife through anxiety challenges

My wife has taken three memory tests and passed all of them. Her struggles with memory loss have been attributed to anxiety, which affects her most days. The medication prescribed for her makes her feel excessively drowsy and more anxious, so she avoids taking it. I'm trying to help her manage this on my own. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you.

I was wondering how old your wife is.

I have a congenital short-term memory disorder and experience similar issues. Maybe it could be helpful for your wife to write down lists to keep track of things. I guess you could also come up with little rhymes or ways to remember stuff, too. There are other methods to try as well.

My memory problems seem to be age-related, i think.

Memory issues really ramp up with stress, especially for folks in middle age or beyond. Skipping meds isn't a great move either.

I've got a congenital memory disorder, so I rely on calendars heavily. It helps, but sometimes I still need my wife's nudge to stay on track. My short-term memory is a bit shaky, and she usually tags along when I have appointments.

Be kind and patient. You seem supportive, which helps. Get her a self-help book on anxiety. Ask the doctor about counseling or CBT. Private is pricey (£75 per session), but 6 sessions might make a difference.
