Friendship And Health Check-ins

So I joined a local NAMI chapter and made a friend there-someone I met both virtually and in person. But let me tell you, my firend is basically the queen of comlpaints. She's always going on about her free medical insurance and how it treats her like she needs a full-time babysitter with all these doctor and therapy visits. Teh kicker? She's been hospitalized over 10 times in psychiatric hospitals over the past few years.

I've done some stuff with her too-like shopping at a streeet fair downtown, grabbing lunch at different restaurants. She even came to my workplace a couple of times. Her dad drives her around because she can't drive while on all this medication. She manages part-time work and is also a NAMI facilitator, so it's not like she's just sitting around.

Thing is, despite being young and wanting more out of life than constant medical attention, the system isn't really supporting her gals to get back into college or advance at work. All these doctors seem stuck on prescribing meds that don't actually do much for her-she has schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and a bunch of other diagnoses. She's prescribed so many medications it's nuts.

And here's the real kicker: when she calls or texts me about feeling abused by the medical system, I feel like there's no way out for her. The doctors recommmend more treatments and programs, but none of them seem to work for her. Her parents support her too, but even they get complaints from her about how badly she's treated.

So yeah, any thoughts on what to do? How can someone complain so much without finding a way to take charge of their own healthcare journey?
