Sertraline Prescription Help Needed

Okay, so here's the deal: I'm 4 months out from this whole crisis thing, and honestly, it's been a real struggle with depression, anxiety, and just a bit of psychosis. I started on sertraline about 2.5 months ago, at 50mg. It took roughly 9 days to kick in, and for three weeks, things felt somewhat better. Then boom-back to square one.

I bumped the dose up to 100mg thinking it might help, but same story: I feel a little bit of relief initially, then nothing. At this point, I'm starting to wonder if there's some weird placebo effect going on here because I've never heard of that working like this before.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? I'm not looking for official medical advice-just curious what other people think. Plus, let's be real-I don't exactly trust my GP these days.

Firstly, wow, I'm impressed you're my age and already a health scientist. Secondly, I've been on sertraline too, 100mg for quite some time now, and I feel like a mess. I think it helps in some ways, but we need more than just medication. Therapy, mindset, and environment might also play important roles. As someone interested in humanitarian science, I believe there are many interconnected factors affecting human wellbeing. When one area is off, everything seems to be affected, but finding the key factor that needs stabilization could really make a difference

Agree with you. Therapy's my thing for sure. Gotta get all the help available. My sanity's shaky; can't always think straight. Docs don't always know best.

My old prof said never go to a doctor who knows less than you do.Now stable, I realize I know how sertraline works and it ain't working for me. Need something else.

Legally gotta say I'm not a doc. Been on sertraline 3 months, not feeling stable. Not just about dosage either. Try different meds if this one sucks.

Hello.

Typically, treatment begins with the lowest dose, so I was surprised to hear you were diagnosed with severe depression and started on a lower dosage. I initially began with 100 mg, which made me feel worse, but when it was increased to 150 mg, my condition improved significantly. You might consider this adjustment.

I've been on sertraline off and on for 3 years, feels like a waste. Doesn't stop the thoughts, just stops the tears. Now focusing on natral stuff-magnesium glycinate, zinc picolinate, b-complex, tuna/salmon, chia seeds & walnuts. Also walking daily with music. Works pretty good. Looking at 5-HTP and ginkgo biloba for concentration issues too.

Thanks a lot for your advice! I think maybe teh sertraline wasn't working in my case, so no side effects or benefits at all, regardless of how much I took. Maybe my body just clears drugs too fast because of my high metabolism rate, but I'm not totally sure about that.

I really appreciate any help I can get-I already do meditation and take only the vitamin supplements proven to work. Soon, I should be starting new therapy and medication, but I'm so frustrated with my doctors for their negligence that I don't feel like I can trust them. So basically, I have to figure out my own treatment and then prove it works better than what they suggested.

What's the best combo of vitamins backed by proof? Any specific foods help with mental stuff?

Oh man, I'm gonna have to pull out my old Epidemiology of Nutrition notes again. So, I take krill oil which is sometimes mistaken for cod liver oil-i mean, it sounds gross but in reality it's become a lot more appealing over the past ten years or so. You don't need much and it packs some really useful micronutrients, especially when it comes to improving cholesterol levels and cardiovascular health. Some even think it could help with depressive symptoms, though there's not solid evidence for that yet.

Anyway, if you're up in the UK-especially druing winter in the north-you might watn to consider Vitamin D supplements because a lot of people are deficient. It's kinda weak on evidence but suspected to impprove kidney function and decrease inflammation. Oh, and it may have some effect on mood too, though that's probably not super reliable.

There are also other supplements out there-like glucosamine sulphate-which can really slow down the progression of arthritis. And taking vitamin C for a cuople weeks before flu season seems to cut recovery time down significantly. I've heard abt some claims with iodine improving bone health but, you know,no one is actually deficient in iodine these days.
From what I've seen, your current regimen looks solid and it sounds like you've done your homework on this. There's pretty good evidence for magnesium as well-though to be honest, most people aren't lacking in magnesium nowadays. And listen, I wouldn't recommend tryptopahn supplements or any ammino acid powders because, y'know, our bodies naturally produce tryptophan and studies showed no performance benefits at all.

As far as food goes, I haven't heard about much impacting mental health beyond just eating a healthy diet-mmm, maybe chocolate too. But I'd suggest steering clear of caffeine adn carbonated drinks because I worry about the effects of that carbonic acid on your body, even though there's no real proof of harm from them.

So, what I would recommend is sticking with krll oil, multi-vitamins, and any specific ones you might need like vitamin C or D, glucosamine sulphate, magnesium-and so forth. From all my years studying nutrition, the one thing that always seemed to have a positive impact without any negatives was exercise. If everything you're currently on is working for you, then great! I mean, studies can claim whatever they want but if it feels good and works for you, go with what makes sense to you.
