Is it abuse or something else?

I ended a seventeen-year relationship about four or five years ago, and not long after that, I started seeing a friend I've known for almost thirty years. The first time we went out, I had gone to his house to take a shower because we were planning on going to the casino together since it was something new for me. But when I texted him to check in, he said he was waiting for the sun to come up before throwing some disc golf with his ex-girlfriend. When I got back, they were outside talking, and this hurt me a lot because he didn't mention that to me beforehand.

Later at the casino, he convinced me to spend all my money there. He ended up winning two jackpots worth over twenty-five hundred dollars total. But then he gave me only the original amount I brought in-about $375 out of $2500-and wanted to stay and keep playing. This made me really upset because our plan was to try to win some money since I needed it for rent.

Just run for the hills. No handouts, and if there's any talk of another girl, that's your cue to bolt. Lies are never a good sign. Hope everything works out for you though!

Oh my gosh, first dates at casinos? That just seems like a bad idea to me personally. And when there are disagreements about money early on-that's definitely not a great foundation, right? Plus, if he's hanging out with his ex almost immediately after the date starts off, that's just... nope. Sorry, but I think you made the right call by moving things along and cutting ties. He wasn't being honest from the start.

You deserve so much better than someone who would treat you like that. You're worth it-you're amazing, really-and there are just too many other people out there for you to waste your time on him. Focus on finding someone who values everything about you-your sense of humor, your kindness, and all the wonderful things that make you unique.

Anyway, I'm excited for your upcoming move-in! Here's hoping everything goes smoothly and that you find a whole bunch of great new opportunities there.
