Lost and lookiing for guidance
I'm stuck in this sweet gig with great benefits-health, dental, vision-adn loads of growth potential. Thing is, the job I got hired for is miles away from where I live. Didn't know there was a location nearby hiring when I applied. The place I'm supposed to work was being built for months, and now it's ready, but man, it's across town.
I went through training at the closer spot because of the distance issue. Asked the manager if he'd keep me around, said I'd take any hours and could learn new roles too. He's swamped though; already hired lots of folks plus brought in transfers from elsewhere. Even with my boss pushing for it, there's just no room.
Now here's the kicker-I don't drive. Can't see myself getting behind the wheel anytime soon either. So I'm left staring at a big commute to a city where I can barely get around. If I even tried talking to my boss about switching things up again, might cost me my job and all those sweet benefits.
I tried going for regular Medicaid but got denied. Like it's rigged against folks trying to make ends meet. How am I supopsed to live without being able to see a doctor? Flat broke from giving up paychhecks to help Mom with rent since she's struggling too as an addictions counselor, barely making enough to cover bills.
We're both in this hole and there's no easy way out. Need advice for sure, but first off, we need some kind of miracle. Otherwise, I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, and Mom is relying on me just as much. How do I get from here to my job? Or how can I find something closer that can offer what I need? It's like life's throwing everything at us right now.

Oh man, I totally get where you're coming from. The US can feel like a total nightmare sometimes, especially when it's stacked against regular folks like us. It's not your fault if things are tough-believe me, the system is definitely rigged.
Could switching jobs be an option? Or maybe trying public transport or working remotely would work better for you? Honestly, it might be worth talking to your manager about different possibilities. They shouldn't be upset that you asked; you're just looking out for both of you and figuring out what's best.
Public transportation won't get me there on time, so I would arrive very late for my shift. Additionally, moving isn't an option-I'm young and lack the financial resources to move out independently. I live paycheck to paycheck and cannot afford a down payment on an apartment in this city. Moreover, if I leave my current job soon after moving, it wouldn't make sense to have relocated just to end up back where I started. I did ask for help; she tried to keep me at the location closer to me, but he simply can't accommodate that. This is a restaurant job, so remote wrk isn't possible. Right now, I see no viable options to improve my situation.
Yeah, it's rough right now, but at least you've got solid training under your belt. That'll definitely make fining the next gig easier.
Oh boy, losing my current gig means sayig bye-bye to health insurance too. No more seeing doctors or getting the care I need. It's such a huge worry because I've had so many medical issues before-I really can't afford to go back there.
I guess you have a few choices-maybe you could resign, or maybe just stay put. Another optoin is to ask again if you can move to the new office. If they're hiring lots of people there, though, it sounds like that might not be possible. You should probably think about when this job starts feeling more like a burden because of all the traveling. Also, consider whether moving to the new city could be beneficial.
When I was in college way back in the 1960s, I had to travel twenty-five miles twice a day. It really sucked adn made me struggle with homework, so it kind of felt pointless. The commute was the main issue for going to Tech College
I don't know what to do-I feel stuck and out of options. If I quit my job,I'll probably lose my health insurance too, which means I won't be able to see a doctor. It's really worrying because it could lead to some serious issues for me
Wow, it sounds like you're really stuck in a tough spot here. I mean, it might be necessary for you to stay put, but do you have any kind of car or even some sort of bus pass? Honestly, it could be worth having another chat with the manager-maybe they can switch you back to your original office address if that's possible.
One thing that's a bit concerning is how many new staff members are joining this new offiice. I'm wondering if there might be plans to close down the office near where you live? It does feel ominous, doesn't it?
It's tricky to give advice because sometimes a job isn't worth the hassle and won't pay off in the long run. But then again, if there's even a slight chance that this could lead to better opportunities-like management or promotion-it might be worth sticking around for now.
Overall, things don't seem super promising rihgt now with all the government stuff, inflation going up, and food prices expected to rise from December 2022 through to 2024. It's gonna be rough out there, no doubt about it. Are you getting any health insurance benefits at work? How much is that worth for you in terms of security?
And another thing, will your rent go up because of this situation or due to the new address they're proposing? That's something else to think about when making your decision.
You've got a lot on your plate right now, I can tell.
I don't own a car, not even close-I can't drive to save my life. And no one's around to offer me a ride anyway. Plus, this is a restaurant gig, not some cushy office desk job where you just chill and clock in. The place I was training at? It's been utter chaos lately. My boss barely needs anyone there anymore, let alone me. Insurance is huge for me-without it, I'm uninsured and can't see my doctor. Can't move to that other spot either since the lady who tried helping knows how much I wanted to stay put. If I strt nagging her for more hours, she might just boot me outta there. There's literally nothing else I can do. Finding another job is impossible right now, and even if I did find something new, I'd have to wait ages for my insurance benefits to kick in. Plus, both my family adn in-laws would probably think I'm some kind of total failure if they found out about this mess.
Maybe go for a used motorbike-something compact and affordable? Or how about one of those electric bikes? It might just solve all your problems. If you're feeling adventurous, an ordinary bike could work too if you're in decent shape! You can probably find something reasonable on your local marketplace site.
